The partnership between the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler reached a milestone when Tennessee officials joined Nissan leadership to break ground on a new manufacturing facility in Decherd, Tenn. The new facility - located at the existing Nissan powertrain assembly complex - will produce Mercedes-Benz 4-cyl. gasoline engines for Infiniti and Mercedes-Benz models.

Senior Vice President Research & Development, Nissan Americas Carla Bailo and Vice President Production Engineering and Component Facilities Mark Swenson joined local officials to mark the start of construction on this significant project.

“we begin an exciting new chapter for the Renault-Nissan Alliance and our continued investment in the United States,” Swenson said. “groundbreaking marks the latest move in our collaboration with Daimler to localize production capacity and enhance our competitiveness in the global market.”

Production of the new engines will begin in 2014 with installed capacity of 250,000 units per year. At maximum capacity, the new facility is expected to create up to 400 jobs and will be the first location Mercedes-Benz manufactures engines in the North America Free Trade region. The Tennessee plant’s strategic location will ensure a direct supply of engines for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, to be built at Daimler’s vehicle plant in Tuscaloosa, Ala. (as of 2014).

Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance first announced their strategic collaboration in April 2010 and are extending their reach into the United States as part of both companies’ growth strategy. The companies are also moving forward with a vehicle platform sharing initiative between Infiniti and Mercedes, and development of zero-emission vehicles. The decision to begin jointly producing engines in the U.S. marks the two organizations’ collaborative effort’s largest venture outside of Europe.

Yokohama, Japan - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced the launch of the new Nissan Cima, which goes on sale May 21st at Nissan dealers nationwide in Japan.Since the debut of the first-generation model, Cima has enjoyed support and high acclaim from customers for its excellent driving performance, advanced equipment and leading-edge technology. The new 5th generation Cima continues the exhilarating driving experience that is the DNA of successive Cima models, combining superior engine performance with superior environmental performance, while also delivering high levels of comfortand safety.

The new exterior design expresses the premium class image characteristics of Cima, with its strong presence provided by a large grille and bumper, long wheelbase of over 3 meters and flowing side view. With Nissan’s original one-motor two-clutch parallel hybrid “Intelligent Dual Clutch Control” system, best-in-class fuel economy and strong acceleration performance areoptimally balanced.

Excellent ride comfort and quietness are realized by the newly refined comfort suspension, sound-absorbing tires (adopted for the first time for Nissan vehicles) and Active Noise Control, which has been adjusted to focus on the rear passenger compartment. Furthermore, first-class hospitality is offered in the rear seats, with best-in-class knee room and a range of comfort equipment including a 7-inch wide display integrated with the front seat headrest, overhead reading light, vanity mirrorand sunshade.

In manufacturing the vehicle, each part is elaborately made by Takumi, or “master with greatest skills,” in each of the paint, trim and inspection processes in pursuit of the highest quality. The new Cima achieves both a 20% improvement in fuel economy over 2015 standards and SU-LEV certification, emitting 75% fewer exhaust emissions than 2005 standards. This also qualifies for preferential tax breaks under the Japanese “tax system to promote the diffusion of environmentally friendly vehicles” as next generation automobiles*1, thereby fully exempting it from the automobile acquisition tax and automobileweight tax.

At the end of the inspection process, a specially qualified, experienced inspector carefully conducts a quality inspection on every vehicle. A close check is conducted using both tactile assessment and digitalmeasuring instruments.

Nissan, and UK Prime Minister David Cameron, announced an all-new midsized model will be produced in Sunderland Plant, UK in 2014.It follows the announcement at last month’s Geneva Motor Show that Sunderland will also produce a mainstream B-segment compact car based on the INVITATION concept from next year. The new medium hatchback announced will create an additional 225 jobs at Nissan and 900 at component companies supplying Nissan in the UK.

Combined, both models will result in more than 3,000 new jobs being created in the UK automotive sector within the next two years - 625 at Nissan and the remainder across the supply base.Once recruitment for both models is complete, the Sunderland Plant workforce will stand at a record 6,225 supporting an overall annual plant volume of more than half a million units. The announcement was made by David Cameron and Nissan Chief Operating Officer, Toshiyuki Shiga, during a visit to Nissan’s headquarters in Yokohama, Japan.

It was confirmed that the new hatchback, which will be named closer to its sales launch, marks Nissan’s return to the mainstream medium segment in Europe and will play a major role in the company’s continued expansion under the ambitious ‘Nissan Power 88’ mid-term plan.Production capacity for the new model will be around 80,000 units triggering the need for Sunderland Plant to implement an additional shift. This will see both production lines operating ‘around the clock’ for the first time in the plant’s 26-year history, a move which will take manufacturing capacity beyond 550,000 units.

The announcement also consolidates Sunderland Plant’s position as the UK’s largest car manufacturer, a title it has held since 1998.In 2010 Sunderland became the first and only UK car plant to produce more than 400,000 units in a single year when 423,000 Qashqais, Notes and Jukes rolled off the line. This was smashed last year when 480,000 cars were produced. Now the plant is preparing to pass the half million mark for the first time.

As well as having a significant impact in volume terms, the new hatch represents an additional £127 Mn investment by Nissan in its Sunderland operation and, crucially, is supported by an offer of £8.2 Mn Regional Growth Fund from the UK Government. This marks an unprecedented period of investment in Sunderland Plant in recent years totaling £921 Mn - more than a quarter of overall investment in the plant. This includes introduction of the 100% electric Nissan LEAF in 2013; Juke launch; the construction of a battery plant and the replacement for the Qashqai crossover - in addition to the two recent model announcements.

Yokohama, Japan - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. was awarded the second prize at the 2012 J-Win Diversity Awards, presented by the Japan Women’s Innovative Network (NPO J-Win), a non-profit organization. Nissan won the Special Prize at the inaugural awards event held in 2008, making this the second time the company has received an award from NPO J-Win.

The J-Win Diversity Awards represent a first step toward increased diversity and inclusion* in corporations. The awards promote companies that take a proactive and innovative approach to the recruitment, skills development and advancement of women, and demonstrates the results in their business performance.

Nissan views diversity as a vital element in its response to global and multifaceted customer needs. It believes that becoming a company where women can take a more active role in business also promotes the active utilization of diverse human resources, including men, and contributes to value creation for the company. As such, Nissan has implemented various initiatives to promote diversity globally.

In Japan, Nissan has continued its efforts to provide career support for female employees with the aim of furthering the participation of women in decision-making. As a result, the proportion of women in managerial positions has nearly quadrupled in the past seven years, from 1.6% to 6.1% in 2011. Targets have also been established for measures designed to bring more women into senior management level positions. Nissan is expanding its diversity initiatives globally under the leadership of its global headquarters in Japan, and considers the J-win Diversity Awards as recognition of the efforts that it has taken in promoting diversity.

A motorcycle helmet is a protective headgear used by motorcycle riders. The primary goal of a motorcycle helmet is to protect the rider’s head during collision or accident, thus preventing or reducing head injury or saving the rider’s life. Research and surveys concluded that helmets reduce the risk of head injury by around 69% and death by around 42%. Helmet’s purpose is to save the rider’s head from brain injuries that are more serious than skull fractures. They frequently result in death, permanent disability or personality change and, unlike bone, neurological tissue has very limited ability to recover after an injury. Therefore, the primary purpose of a helmet is to prevent traumatic brain injury while skull and face injuries are a significant secondary concern.

The conventional motorcycle helmet has two principal protective components:

1. Outer Shell: It is made up of thin, hard, made from polycarbonate plastic, fiberglass, or Kevlar. The purpose of the hard outer shell is to prevent penetration of the helmet by a pointed object that might otherwise puncture the skull, and to provide structure to the inner liner so it does not disintegrate upon abrasive contact with pavement. This is important because the foams used have very little resistance to penetration and abrasion.

2. Inner Shell: It is made up of soft, thick, inner liner usually made of expanded polystyrene or polypropylene “EPS” foam. The purpose of the foam liner is to crush during an impact, thereby increasing the distance and period of time over which the head stops and reducing its deceleration.
Types of Helmets

1. Full face helmet covers the entire head, with a rear that covers the base of the skull, and a protective section over the front of the chin. Such helmets have an open cutout in a band across the eyes and nose, and often include a clear or tinted transparent plastic face shield, known as a visor, that generally swivels up and down to allow access to the face.

2. Motocross and off-road helmet has clearly elongated chin and visor portions, a chin bar, and partially open face to give the rider extra protection while wearing goggles and to allow the unhindered flow of air during the physical exertion of this type of riding. The visor is to allow the rider to dip his head and provide further protection from flying debris during off road riding. It will also keep the sun out of the eyes of the rider during jumps.

3. Modular or “flip-up” helmet, also sometimes termed “convertible” or “flip-face”. When fully assembled and closed, they resemble full face helmets by bearing a chin bar for absorbing face impacts. Its chin bar may be pivoted upwards (or, in some cases, may be removed) by a special lever to allow access to most of the face, as in an open face helmet.

4. Open face or “three-quarters”, helmet covers the ears, cheeks, and back of the head, but lacks the lower chin bar of the full face helmet. Many offer snap-on visors that may be used by the rider to reduce sunlight glare.

5. Half helmet, also referred to as a “Shorty” in the USA and “Pudding Basin” or TT helmet in the UK. It has essentially the same front design as an open face helmet but without a lowered rear in the shape of a bowl. The half helmet provides the minimum coverage.
Some helmets provide additional conveniences, such as ventilation, face shields, ear protection, intercom etc too.

Some of the World Popular Helmet Brands
1. HJC
2. Shoei
3. Arai
4. Icon
5. Scorpion
6. Skid Lid
7. Thor
8. Bell Helmets.

Motorcycle riders, scooters, racers must choose the best helmets as per their requirements a this is the most important safety and life saving accessory for two wheeler riders.
